DNN Display Modes and Panes

When you login to the DNN consol, you see the Control panel at the top, where you can add pages, edit page information, add modules to the page etc. All your site level management can be carried out here.

DNN Modes

Now, let’s take a look at what exactly modes are.

In DNN, there are three types of modes, View, Edit and Layout. The modes are what decide how you as a user or admin will interact with the modules on the page. By Default, the mode is “Edit”. This mode enables you to interact with the features on the page, and all the modules that are included. The “View” mode will show you how the website is presented to a normal viewer. With the “view” mode, all the module edit options are hidden, but the control panel still remains at the top of the page. The layout mode enables you to see all the panes and modules on the page, and hides all the content.

DNN Pages

As in any other website, a DNN page also consists of various content, navigation bars and internal linking for users or visitors to go from pne page to another – example from home page to the services page etc.

DNN Modules

Modules form a major part of DNN Development. Modules are generally those elements that provide functionality to the page. Simple features for your website such as content require a module to display it correctly. There is an HTML module that is very commonly used for this. Many such modules are used and developed by DNN developers to ensure that you get the most appropriate functionality for your website. Eg. Login or registration to the website, blogging module, online interviews, online test etc.

DNN Panes

Panes are defined areas on your website, or web page where you can add modules for functionality. The most common pane for all websites is the content pane. You can get a better idea of the concept of panes if you switch to the “layout” mode and view how the content and images are arranged on your website. The arrangement of the website elements greatly define the usability and the look and feel of your website as a whole. After adding the module to the pane, you can easily move it over to another location.

Well, DNN has a crystal clear concept of how a website and it’s elements need to be placed. You can easily modify the panes, their locations and the modules and customize your website as per you requirements. DNN modules and DNN extensions can be integrated to add functionality to your website
